Taps and Honoring the Fallen
This page is to honor our American military veterans who have gone on before us. While history may overlook many of the brave deeds of our gallant service men and women, their memory will live forever in the hearts of freedom-loving people of this great nation.
Read each name with pride and gratitude, for they answered the call of duty and now the honor and glory are theirs. They gave their all for us—and they are not forgotten. Taps are sounding.
The Tradition of Taps
"Taps” concludes many military funerals conducted with honors at Arlington National Cemetery and across the United States. The tune is also sounded at memorial services in Arlington’s Memorial Amphitheater, at grave sites throughout the cemetery, and regularly at the American Cemetery in Normandy, France, in remembrance of those who sacrificed in World War II. It stands as a solemn tribute to courage, service, and sacrifice.
Military Honors Policy
Since January 1, 2000, every Armed Forces veteran and member on active duty or in the active reserve has the right to be buried with patriotic honors provided by a military honor guard.
Veterans must have been honorably discharged.
Families must provide discharge papers (DD214). We recommend locating these papers early and sharing a copy with a funeral director. For VFW members, a copy is kept on file at the Post. If a DD214 cannot be found, our Post Service Officer can assist with requesting duplicates.
