Join VFW Post 9509 — Moncks Corner, SC

The John M "Mr. Mac" Dangerfield VFW Post 9509 brings together veterans who served overseas — from Korea and Vietnam to the Persian Gulf, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan and the Global War on Terrorism — along with their families. We serve veterans and families across Moncks Corner, Goose Creek, Summerville and all of Berkeley County.

Who can join the VFW

You're eligible if you are a U.S. veteran, or currently serving in the active duty, Guard or Reserve, and you have:

• Received a campaign or expeditionary medal for overseas service, or
• Served 30 days in a row, or 60 days total, in Korea, or
• Received hostile fire or imminent danger pay.

Family members: join the VFW Auxiliary

The Auxiliary is open to the spouse, widow or widower, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, brother or sister of a VFW-eligible veteran — including step and adopted relatives — age 16 and up. Your veteran doesn't have to be a VFW member, just eligible. The same eligibility check works for family members: Check eligibility.

How joining works

1. Check your eligibility online, or stop by the Post.
2. Gather proof of service — usually your DD-214. (Auxiliary applicants also need proof of their relationship to the veteran.)
3. Fill out a short application. We'll help with it.
4. Get voted in at our regular Post meeting, held the third Monday of each month at 7:00 PM.

Annual dues are $45 for the VFW and $40 for the Auxiliary. Veterans can also apply online through the national VFW at vfw.org.

Can I join the Auxiliary?

If someone in your family served overseas, you very likely can. The VFW Auxiliary is open to spouses, widows and widowers, parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, and brothers and sisters of VFW-eligible veterans — step and adopted relatives included — age 16 and up. Your veteran only needs to be eligible, not a member.
